Porsche Cayenne <2008 model, showing "Four wheel drive system faulty" obviously it's having transfer case faulty, further check with PIWIS 2 encounter activation of servo motor having open circuit issue, this lead inform us servo motor has down.
Dismantled servo motor from transfer case for further investigation, by look on the surface that is no visible sign of damage but once open the casing a strong burned smells out from the servo motor at this stage I am sure this motor has gone. this is not end of the story I still need to drain out transfer case fluid to check the condition of transfer case whether suffering burned oil and debris issue.
On 21.03.2014, after replace motor transfer case functionality back to normal. (refer picture below)

Hi just interested about the cost for this faulty ? Approximately ?
ReplyDeleteI bought a new servo motor from ebay for about $200 (brand new, but aftermarket). It didn't solve the issue for me, so not sure if that means you need to buy an OEM servo or if my servo just wasn't the problem to begin with. My next step is probably replace the control module. Not sure where to go from there if that doesn't work. I'll post again after I swap out the modules.
DeleteI have the same problem. Yesterday in 60miles of driving lost power three times and had to pull over, and switch the car off and on to clear the problem. Have had this for two years. Have tried three different mechanics including a Porsche specialist. Have replaced th battery, Altenrnator, gearbox servo motor, sent away the control unit for analysis, fixed various dodgy connections including the heating system. All to no avail. Anyone know how to fix this? Porsche clearly clueless, and it has destroyed my faith in Porsche reliability. This is the most unreliable car I have had in 25 years of driving.
ReplyDeleteHi,
DeleteI had the same problem with my Porsche. In my opinion is the most unreliable car.
The problem which you have now is probably coming from throttle body. In my case was the connector from throttle body, When i was hitting a bump i was getting PSM failure and engine was going in limp mode. Connector was looking ok but probably was damaged inside. Change first this part and after that try to change the throttle body. If you will test with Durametric you will find some failures regarding switches position.
After you have a failure like this is better to stop the engine, move the ignition in position ,,on,, for 1,5 min after that switch off for 1 min after that restart the engine. You will see a huge improvement.
I had huge problems with Porsche and many were coming before 60000miles. I advice you to take in consideration to sell the car. You will sleep better and you will not lose lots of money.

Hi good afternoon I have a problem but the motor transfer case I had changed few pc of the motor transfer case the car drive on the road around 10 kilometers the car meter showing again four wheels system faulty may I no what I have to do now ? Thank you
ReplyDeleteI'm having the same issue with a 2005 Cayenne S I just picked up.
ReplyDelete"4WD System Faulty" notice followed by "Brake Pad Workshop" (probably unrelated but not sure yet).
I just replaced with servo motor with a new one from ebay (aftermarket but new) - however, this didn't fix the issue and it still won't shift into 4-low. Now I'm wondering if I need to change the transfer case module as well, maybe that was the problem and the servo motor was fine, or maybe since the servo motor is aftermarket it's not compatible, no clue so far really. Any advice would be appreciated!
Btw, I plugged in my OBDII code reader and no codes are coming up either.
Thanks in advance!
I am having recently similar problems. I am in Athens Greece.
ReplyDeleteOne morning I tried out of the blue to engage the low gear since had been years of no use...I was stopped and followed the directions. After it appeared to be engaged I wasn't able to disengage it from low gear thus I was driving in low gear around town. I looked it up of course everywhere, talked with a Porsche mechanic told me what to try but nothing happened. I was stuck....driving 35mph at 3k rpm...3 miles per gallon.. I took the sevro motor and gear box loose, tested it and it worked find! Them I spoke with the Porsche people in Athens and the guy basically told me the same thing with the exception of one new detail!!! Make sure you put on your seat belt in order for the system to work! I was like are you kidding....I flew out to the car to try it but of course that wasn't the case.. He said the only other thing was to bring the car in so there it went on a tow truck..
Monday morning 10 days ago it was there and they didn't get to it until Thursday afternoon....The diagnosis was $3,500 for a new module and couple other things that I didn't need and so on.
I was breaking my brain to get to it.. I took it to a friend mechanic that I took it the parts loose before and I told him:
Mike look, there has to be a way to disengage the low gear manually. So we took apart the 5 bolts and pulled the unit out. We took a pair of pliers and turned the shaft backwards two clicks.
Guess what, it worked fine...
Don't care about the electrical problem for now but it runs fine.
Hope this helps someone.

DeleteHey Andre, had a similar problem, was quoted $18K to fix the problem. I fixed it for free, with a pair of multi grips, and the codes went away, but on a long drive some weeks later, the engine went into reduction mode, as it thanks its back in 4wd for sone reason, it's still in 2wd, but I can not go faster than 97k./hr :( still trying to clear it, let me know if anyone else has had similar.
DeleteBTW the PSM and Faulty four wheel drive system went out!
